This is a brand new digital temperature sensor chip for Original Xbox 1.0-1.4 motherboards.
It’s not pulled from an old Xbox, and it isn’t refurbished old stock.

This chip reports its own temperature and also reads the CPU’s internal thermal diode so the Xbox can monitor system temperature and react when it detects an overheating condition.

When this chip fails, the Xbox can falsely report an overheating condition even when the console isn’t actually hot. Common symptoms can include incorrect or unrealistic temperature readings, no video output on startup, a 50/50 orange/off flashing front LED pattern, the fan ramping up or running at 100% speed, and the system shutting itself off shortly after power-on. In these cases, the console thinks it’s overheating and shuts down to protect itself.

On 1.0-1.4 motherboards, this chip is located in the same area as the clock capacitor. Common corrosion damage in that area caused by clock capacitor leakage can contribute to this chip failing.

Replacing this chip can restore proper temperature reporting when the sensor itself is the source of the problem.

This chip isn't compatible with 1.6 motherboards. On 1.6 boards, the temperature sensing function is integrated into the Xyclops chip, so there isn’t a separate external temperature chip that you can replace.
