Service

IMPORTANT: This is not a retail product. This listing describes a service only and is added to a custom quote during consultation. Parts are not included unless explicitly stated in the description below. No work is performed and no payment is captured through this listing alone. This service is governed by the Service Policy and other applicable store policies. Orders containing services without an issued work order number cannot be processed by the system.

CONTACT ME VIA CHAT TO ARRANGE "SEND-IN SERVICES" AND GET YOUR PROJECT ON MY WORK QUEUE.

STANDARD REFURB – This service includes full disassembly, inspection, and cleaning of the DVD drive mechanism. All originally greased components are stripped of old grease and re-lubricated with fresh grease during reassembly.
If a New DVD Drive Belt is purchased, it will be replaced as part of the refurb process.
The laser lens is also cleaned using 99% IPA during this service.

SAMSUNG RESISTOR ARRAY REPLACEMENT – Samsung DVD drives are known to throw error code 7 and/or 12 when their resistor arrays drift out of spec. This is a common Samsung-specific failure point and can be addressed during service.

ADJUST POTENTIOMETERS – If a drive is not reading discs, a proper refurb can sometimes restore functionality. If cleaning and mechanical service do not resolve the issue and the original installed laser is degrading, the potentiometers may be adjusted to increase laser output. This procedure applies only to the existing laser assembly and does not include laser replacement. Adjustment is a temporary, last-resort measure and accelerates laser wear and eventual failure.

This service provides no guarantee of restored functionality. The service charge applies regardless of outcome once work has been performed.

LASER / OPTICAL ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT – This service covers removal of a failed or weak optical laser assembly and installation of a replacement unit. Replacement may include New Old Stock (NOS) laser assemblies (when available), tested OEM used laser assemblies, or tested OEM optical deck assemblies when individual laser units are unavailable. All replacement assemblies are installed, calibrated to functional baseline, and tested under load prior to return.

New Old Stock components must be sourced directly by me and remain under my control from procurement through installation. Customer-supplied new laser assemblies are not eligible for installation.

Customer-supplied donor drives may be accepted for evaluation and transplant attempts. Disassembly and evaluation of donor units is billed as labor. If a donor unit does not result in restored functionality and additional replacement attempts are requested, further installation labor charges will apply. Replacement components from shop inventory are billed separately from labor.

When a drive is already in a fully non-reading state, proceeding with laser or optical assembly replacement is considered a speculative recovery attempt. Once an optical drive has reached a complete non-reading condition, recovery probability can be low depending on model and prior history. Customers choosing to proceed under these conditions acknowledge the speculative nature of the work.

Full non-reading recovery attempts require a 50% non-refundable deposit based on the total estimated invoice for the approved scope of work before service begins. The remaining balance, plus return shipping, is due upon completion of work regardless of outcome. If the customer elects to surrender the non-functioning drive for parts after the attempt, acceptance of surrender is at my sole discretion. A condition of surrender is transfer of the complete drive assembly in its final post-service state, in full, including all original components and all replacement parts installed during service. If surrender is accepted under these terms, the remaining balance will be waived. If surrender is declined, or if the customer requests return of the unit, the remaining balance must be paid in full before return shipping is processed.
