This listing is for 4 brand new Samsung K4D263238M-QC50 RAM chips to upgrade the OG Xbox motherboard to 128mb of RAM.

Its best to have experience doing this kind of work or seek help from a professional. If you are unsure of your abilities and have nobody to help you install them please look at the service listing in this collection for sending it in to me to get the work done.

I will not be responsible for the parts or damage to your motherboard if you attempt an install and fail.

What Does The Extra RAM Do For Your Xbox:

  • XBMC Based Dashes - There are many asset heavy versions of XBMC dashes out there. The extra RAM improves the system's stability with these resource intensive dashboards.
  • Arcade Games - FinalBurn Legends and MAME have a few games that require more memory to load. Without the extra RAM there are some games in these emulators that you wont be able to play. (video)
  • Sega Chihiro - This was a Japanese Arcade that used OG Xbox hardware with 128mb of RAM. These Chihiro games will not load without the extra RAM installed.
  • Homebrew & PC Ports - The community is always working on bringing new content to the platform. In some cases these projects need the extra ram to run properly.
  • Recovered Dev Mode/Unreleased Games - When unfinished/unreleased games are recovered from developer Xboxes, they are often not compressed to run with the retail 64mb of RAM. These projects require the extra RAM to load.
  • High Def Video Playback - The extra RAM greatly improves higher def video playback performance using XBMC.
  • Game Executable Definition Upscale Patching - Some games, retail released in 480p, can be patched to run in 720p. Not all games convert well but some work great. Games cannot be patched to run in higher def without the extra RAM.
  • Emulation (Surreal64) - This emulator needs 64mb of RAM to run the game and then an additional amount to run the emulator itself. On retail RAM (64mb) consoles it achieves this by using something called "Virtual RAM." This basically uses the cache (X, Y, and Z) partitions of the hard drive as RAM. The IDE bus is not nearly as fast as actual RAM chips so this causes a stutter in the games, When there is 128mb of RAM on the board, Surreal64 can detect this and it doesn't turn the virtual RAM feature on, effectively removing the speed bottleneck of the IDE bus and removing the stutter from the games.
  • Emulation - The RAM upgrade helps most other emulators that are asset heavy to operate and run smoother.
