Back when OG Xbox was released we were still coming out of the CRT (standard def) era and the HD cables available weren't sold in as high of numbers as standard def cables.
Now that we are in a high def world, using standard composite (Yellow/Red/White) cables just doesn't cut it for most gamers. Composite cables are limited to 480i only on the OG Xbox. S-video can improve this however S-Video still runs on the composite signal with the 480i limitation. Component will provide access to 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Most HDMI solutions on the market today use this component mode and wiring configuration to pull that HD signal out of the console to convert it. Most commercial HDMI adapters do not offer digital audio through HDMI and are mid to low quality in performance.

There are cheap generic component cables all over Amazon and eBay however these cables have NO SHIELDING in them and they pick up a lot of Electromagnetic interference in both video and audio. Many customers have reported audio buzz and poor video using these cheap cables. The solution to achieving good quality output from your Xbox is to have a cable that protects your signal wires from picking up this interference by protecting those signal wires with good grounded shielding around the signal wires. Xbox 360 cables accomplish this requirement VERY WELL!

Due to the lower numbers of high def cables sold back in the day, it has driven the cost of OEM OG Xbox high def cables through the roof (normally $80-$100 dollars.) With inspection of those OEM options you will find that their quality is not very good and not worth the price asked for them in today's market. The HD and Advance AV packs (manufactured by Foxlink) have poor shielding and very small gauge wires. When you look at the version 2 OEM component option, you will find that the high performance RCA's have no reinforcement like other high end cables have, they're just soldered and crimped in place. The bottom line is that the OEM options are middle grade for top dollar.

These converted 360 cables offer mid to high grade performance at a price that stands in the middle of the market. In 4+ years (and well over 2500 cables sold) I have never gotten negative response when a customer hooks these up. Many praise it for getting rid of interference caused by using cheap unshielded component cables. Don't waste your time on high priced mid grade OEM options or cheap unshielded budget cables. This is the best solution you will find in today's market for the best value and best performance. You cant tell the difference between these cables and OEM because they are OEM. When they come in they are inspected for damage and tested on an Xbox 360. If they test well and have no major damage, i then cut off the 360 AVIP for tear-down and processing. The cable moves on to cleaning (with isopropyl alcohol) and a second, more detailed, inspection for damages. Remember that they are "used" and 15-20 years old. None of them will ever be perfect but i don't pass them through the second round unless they're really good quality. After cleaning they are then soldered to a 24 pin header, visually inspected, and then physically tested on an OG Xbox for functionality. When they pass this test they are then hot glued solid, much like monster does inside their AVIP's, so as not to ever have issues. The assembly of the AVIP is completed and the cable gets its final test. This helps the solder bond cleanly, improves placement accuracy during installation, and reduces the amount of time heat must be applied with the soldering iron.

This step is especially important with the FR4 versions. Because FR4 boards are thicker and more rigid, they can hold the contact point at a slight angle if the motherboard pads or vias are not already pre-tinned. When that happens, the iron may not make direct, efficient contact where it needs to, and solder and flux can flow down into that small gap instead of bonding cleanly between the motherboard and the rebuild board.

On vias and other tight contact points, pre-tinning with solder paste generally works better than relying on rosin core wire solder. Solder paste delivers flux and micro solder directly to the point being heated and is more tolerant of the extra heat sometimes needed to get a good bond on small vias. Rosin core wire solder is less forgiving in this situation because the rosin flux can polymerize and harden if it is heated too long in that small gap.

When that happens, it creates a tenting effect. In simple terms, the hardened flux can form a barrier between the via and the rebuild board pad. Once that tenting effect happens, it becomes much harder to get a direct electrical connection because the solder is no longer flowing cleanly where it needs to. Reflowing it is also more difficult because once the flux activator has been burned off, the polymerized residue does not work as effectively as fresh flux. The rebuild board may look soldered, but the connection can still be weak or incomplete. It is essentially glued in place by polymerized rosin flux rather than being electrically connected. For more information on flux behavior and chemistry, see “Flux & Solvent Control Standard” under the “TK’s Shop Docs & Procedures” section in the Resources tab at the top of this site.

The flex version greatly reduces this problem because the board is much thinner and sits closer to the motherboard surface, so it does not create the same odd contact angle that thicker FR4 boards can. That makes the flex version more forgiving in terms of pad contact and solder flow. However, the flex version is also more sensitive to excessive heat dwell. Proper pre-tinning is still important because it allows the board to solder into place faster and more precisely, reducing the chance of heat damage from holding the iron on the board too long.

If a via needs to be used as a contact point, it should be clean and properly pre-tinned before the rebuild board is applied. A useful prep method is to lightly scratch away any solder mask on the via, clean the area, and then pre-tin it before placing the board. Once the motherboard pads and vias are properly pre-tinned, the rebuild board and motherboard will typically flow together quickly, smoothly, and accurately during installation.

Follow the installation reference shown in the product images when positioning the rebuild board.

Licensing & Source

The OXC_LPCorrectr is an open source device

-Hardware is shared under the CERN OHL version 1.2
Source: https://github.com/Kekule-OXC/OXC_LPCorrectr
OXC_LPCorrectr designed by Chimeric Systems

Features of the XERC 2 XE

No mod chip needed (does NOT replace your mod chip)

Supports short and long power button press (lets you "quick choose" bios with for example X3 and Aladdin/Jafar)

Supports DVD-Eject press

Supports SmartXX-OS press (simulates the sequence needed to be pressed to enter SmartXX-OS)

Fully customizable buttons on the fly! EC1 and EC2 are changed to 470µF 25V polymer capacitors because the caps that come on these adapters are usually low quality aluminum electrolytic caps, and they are known to contribute to failure rates in batches of these adapters. 470µF 25V capacitors are chosen to replace the 220µF 25V capacitors that come on some of these adapters because that is the value that was generally used on the older JP103-5 and RXD-629A7-7 adapter designs. This mod brings the VER:M03E adapter closer to the older component configuration that worked well, and it also works as a good upgrade for older JP103-5 and RXD-629A7-7 adapters.

IDE (PATA) Compatibility
& The manufacturer doesn't put enough solder on the pads to hold it properly. I make sure to add some solder to reinforce them and that does help a lot in preventing them from coming off the board so easily. It's always best to take caution with these Arduino's and be easy on them though. The manufacture date, serial number, video encoder, power connector, and other visual identifiers can all help narrow down the correct revision. The most reliable method is to visually inspect the motherboard itself, since original Xbox motherboards can be case-swapped and the board inside may not always match the outside shell.

If you need help identifying your motherboard revision, use the Resources tab at the top of this website and look under Revision Identification.
